đź“– the book behind the Rule

Profit First, by Mike Michalowicz

Profit First challenges the traditional business formula of Sales – Expenses = Profit and replaces it with Sales – Profit = Expenses. Mike Michalowicz argues that when profit is whatever happens to be left at the end, it will almost always get consumed by expenses. Instead, business owners should intentionally set aside profit first and operate the business with what remains. The book turns profitability from a year-end hope into a daily discipline, using simple cash-management habits to force better spending decisions and build a healthier, more sustainable business.

Executive Takeaway: If you don’t make profit a priority, your business will find a way to spend it.

“Your business is supposed to serve you. If it’s not profitable, it’s broken.”

– Mike Michalowicz

Profit First Keynote

You are allowed to build a business that makes a real profit. In fact, you have to. Revenue gets attention, but profit pays the bills, gives you room to handle hard times, and lets you keep going. There’s nothing noble about running a business that works hard and never makes money. Growth without profit can just mean you’re getting bigger while losing more. Prioritize it. Protect it. Bake it into your system, not just your spreadsheet.
